A young girl with a key unlocking a rusty gate overgrown with ivy, leading to a secret garden bathed in sunlight.

Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel, The Secret Garden

Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey; Along came a spider and sat down beside her…

Cassie shrieked and swatted wildly at the air. “Ewwww, a spider! Get it away! Get it away!” Her dad, ever patient, chuckled softly and scooped the tiny spider into his hand. He walked it carefully outside and gently placed it on a leaf. “See Cassie,” he said, “He’s not going to hurt you. He’s just curious.” Cassie, unconvinced, scrunched her face. “But they’re gross, Dad! They have way too many legs and they’re scary!” Dad smiled and ruffled her hair. “Well, how about this,” he said, “Let's learn about spiders together and maybe, just maybe, you’ll see they’re not so scary after all.” Cassie, always up for a challenge, reluctantly agreed. That afternoon, they snuggled up with a big book about bugs. Cassie was mesmerized by the colorful photos and fascinating facts. Did you know that spiders aren’t insects, they’re arachnids? They have eight legs, not six! And, get this, they spin amazing webs to catch their food! The book was filled with all sorts of cool details about spiders and their incredible abilities. As the days passed, Cassie found herself getting braver around bugs. She started noticing the intricate patterns of their wings and the way they moved with such purpose. They weren't so much creepy anymore, more like tiny adventurers in a great big world.

Bugs are cool and amazing?! Thanks for loving bugs too! 🐞

One sunny afternoon, while playing in the garden, Cassie spotted a beautiful butterfly fluttering around the flowers. It landed softly on a daisy, its wings a kaleidoscope of color. Cassie crept closer, her breath catching in her throat. This time, she didn’t scream or swat, she just watched in awe and wonder. The butterfly, as if sensing her newfound respect, stayed put, its delicate wings slowly opening and closing. From that day forward, Cassie became a champion for bugs. She taught her friends and classmates all about their importance and the vital role they play in our world. She even started a bug club at school, where they would go on bug-hunting adventures and learn about the fascinating world of insects and arachnids.
