A Tiny House, As Black as Night
What is always hungry and must always be fed?
Shhh! Be very, very quiet. Come closer and I will tell you a secret. Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Luna who was afraid of the dark. One night, Luna's mother told her a story about a tiny house, as black as night, hidden deep within their garden. Luna's mom whispered that the tiny black house held a wondrous, magical secret - but you could only discover it if you were brave enough to peek inside.
Luna was a curious and adventurous girl, but she was afraid of what might be hiding in the darkness. What if something scary was lurking inside? After her mom kissed her goodnight, Luna lay in bed listening to the crickets chirping outside her window. Where was the tiny house? Was it near the roses? Or maybe behind her swing set?
Luna tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Finally, she decided to be brave! She crept out of bed and tiptoed to the window. She peered into the backyard, but all she could see were shadows. She took a deep breath and slowly opened her window. The night air was filled with the sweet smell of honeysuckle and the chirping of crickets.
The sound of the crickets gave Luna an idea! She remembered her mom telling her that crickets live in the grass. Maybe if she followed the chirping, she would find the tiny black house! She took a deep breath and crept into the garden.
She followed the sound of the crickets, which led her past the roses and the swing set, deeper and deeper into the garden. The chirping grew louder and louder, and finally, Luna stopped right in front of it. The tiny house!
There, nestled in the soft grass, was a tiny house made of twigs and leaves. It was as black as night, just like her mother had said. Luna's heart pounded in her chest. She was both terrified and excited at the same time. What was inside?
Taking a deep breath, Luna bent down and peered inside. She gasped. It was filled with hundreds of tiny white, glowing eggs. She watched in amazement as they started to hatch, one by one, and out popped hundreds of baby crickets!
Bugs are cool and amazing?! Thanks for loving bugs too! 🐞
Luna realized that the tiny black house wasn't scary at all. It was a safe and cozy home for the crickets and their babies. From that day on, Luna wasn't afraid of the dark anymore. She knew that even in the darkest of places, there was always something beautiful and magical to be found, especially if it involved bugs!
