Calling all curious kitchen critters — it’s time to get your hands floury and your imaginations buzzing! 🐞 In today’s garden-inspired escapade, we’re baking up a batch of Ladybug Honey-Garlic Breadsticks: golden, garlicky twists with just the right kiss of honey sweetness. They’re soft, sticky, and irresistibly shareable — perfect for little hands to roll, twist, and taste along the way. So tie on your aprons, gather your tiny sous-chefs, and let’s whip up a buggy snack worthy of our favorite spotted pollinator pals!
What You’ll Need
Ingredients:
-
2 cups warm water
-
2 tbsp sugar (to attract those ladybugs!)
-
2 tbsp active dry yeast
-
4 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tsp salt
-
¼ cup melted butter
-
1 tbsp honey (for that golden sweetness)
-
3 cloves garlic, minced (to add a savory zing!)
Let’s Get Baking!
Begin your adventure by pouring the warm water into a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle the sugar and yeast on top, then let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes—this is the magical moment when the yeast wakes up and starts bubbling, just like our giddy ladybug friends preparing for the feast.
Once the mixture is bubbly and frothy, whisk in the melted butter and honey. Stir in the salt before slowly adding the flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
Dust a clean surface with flour and knead the dough for about 5 to 7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic—like a ladybug’s shiny, spotted shell!
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour, or until it doubles in size. This is your chance to take a little break and daydream about the fun ladybug-themed decorations you’ll add later!
Once risen, punch down the dough and split it into small, equal pieces—aim for about 12 to 16 pieces. Roll each piece into a long breadstick, then bend them slightly to resemble ladybug bodies.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the breadsticks on the sheet, leaving a little space between each, and let them rise for another 20 minutes.
While they’re getting fluffy, mix the minced garlic with a few tablespoons of melted butter. After the second rise, brush this garlic butter mixture generously over the breadsticks.
Pop them into the oven and bake for about 15–20 minutes or until golden brown, filling your kitchen with mouthwatering aromas.
Once baked, remove them from the oven and brush them again with honey for that sweet, sticky ladybug finish!
Buggy Bonus
Did you know? Ladybugs are not only cute garden friends but also fantastic helpers. They eat aphids, which can damage your plants, making them natural pest controllers!
