Poppin' Fly Delights! 🪰🪰

Poppin' Fly Delights! 🪰🪰

🪰🎉  Get ready to buzz with excitement, young chefs! These Poppin’ Fly Delights are popcorn balls so scrumptious and fun, they’ll have you fluttering with joy. Perfect for a snack or a movie night, these delightful munchies are packed with sweetness and pizzazz—no real flies involved, we promise!

Ingredients

  • 12 cups popped popcorn (make sure the unpopped kernels are gone!)
  • 3/4 cup Karo® Syrup (the magic sticky stuff!)
  • 3/4 cup white sugar (sugar, sugar, oh honey, honey!)
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (always better with a little salt!)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (for that poppin’ surprise!)
  • 1 cup candy-coated chocolate eggs (perfect for insect-inspired colors!)
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows (fluffy clouds of yum!)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (if you want to add some crunch)

Toppings:

  • 1 cup melting chocolate chips (go melt your heart!)
  • 1/4 cup colorful sprinkles (because all flies love a little color!)
  • 1/4 cup edible glitter (for some fly-tastic sparkle!)

Fun Bug Fact

Did you know that flies taste with their feet? Just like you might dip your popcorn ball into chocolate, flies land on your food to "taste" it with their tiny feet! Yikes!

Instructions

Buzz In: Let’s start by popping our popcorn! Have an adult help you pop the popcorn on the stove or in an air popper. Make sure all the unpopped kernels are removed, so you don’t crunch down on a surprise!

Sticky Situation: In a large pot, combine the Karo® Syrup, sugar, and butter. Over medium heat, bring this mixture to a boil while mixing constantly. Ding, ding! Let it boil for about 2 minutes and watch it bubble like a cauldron of deliciousness.

Pop it Up a Notch: Remove from heat and stir in baking soda. Watch it fizz and pop—this is the fun part!

Mix and Mingle: In a giant bowl, toss in your popcorn, candy-coated chocolate eggs, and mini marshmallows. Pour the syrupy goodness over the popcorn and give it a good mix until everything is coated in that sweet sticky magic.

Ballin’ Up: With slightly wet hands (this keeps the mixture from sticking to you too much!), form the popcorn mixture into balls about the size of a tennis ball. Place them on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.

Melt Away: Next, it’s time for the chocolate! Melt your melting chocolate chips as per the package instructions. Drizzle this chocolaty goodness over your popcorn balls and then sprinkle with your colorful sprinkles and edible glitter.

Chill Out: Let those creations cool down and harden for about 30 minutes—or until you can’t resist any longer!

Safety Tip

Adult Assistance Needed: When melting chocolate or boiling sugar, ask an adult for help to keep those tiny chef hands safe!

Final Touch

Now it’s time to get creative! Try making different flavors or colors of Poppin’ Fly Delights. Can you create a rainbow version? Don’t forget to decorate them in silly "fly" fashion!

Complexity Level: Easy (with some adult help!)
